I’ve been thinking about hosting a live literature night with a friend as a fundraiser for my kids’ school. I know there are other parents out there like me who have not tapped into hidden talents in quite some time. Life is short, don’t get complacent.

I'm meeting a friend for dinner in Oak Park tonight. I remember that's where Mr. Nemeth lived. I'll give my friend an extra special compliment. And I will also do a good deed at the grocery store for a stranger.

One of my friends is underinsured and has to pay out of pocket to see a specialist. I will pay for this appointment. I will also send cards to 2 of my friends letting them know how much I value our years of friendship.

As a former military family, we know how hard it is to be away from family during the Holidays - especially if it was unplanned, like an extended deployment. This year, we will be sending care packages to the Sailors on the USS Abraham Lincoln. https://www.cbs8.com/article/news/local/sending-help-to-navy-sailors-on-extended-deployment-onboard-uss-abraham-lincoln/509-98b450c0-a65e-4f89-9d93-57b1dcc4f49e

I plan to donate a book to the People's Resource Center in Wheaton. I'm donating "Larry Gets Lost in Chicago" by John Skewes, because that was the first book that Uncle J gave to me.

I'm going to make rocky road cookie bites. I think they're going to taste good because I've had rocky road ice cream.

We all know Josh was a wonderful teacher. I decided to teach a religious education class for 3rd graders this year. I hope his spirit leads me through it!

The strength someone can have to care for another person, other than one's self, is amazing. Going to a job early in the morning and having school right after work can be very difficult. My mom makes that look easy. Even when she is angry about an outcome she had at work, she still prevails and does her best in her academic studies. She goes every single day, knowing that she is privileged enough to learn a language she was not able to understand just a few months ago. Now that I am older and wiser, I can understand that she has grown to this beautiful person who has taught me more than to not give up, but that if you can dream it, you can do it. On November 15, I will do more for the community for my mom, to show her how special I think she is.

With the help and initiation of our kids, we successfully cleaned out the attic of our garage (a long overdue and daunting task.) I was able to make 3 trips to Goodwill with donations. Next up......the basement!

In honor of Josh, Brian and I will be donating once a month to a different non-profit organization. This month we are donating to AdoptaPlatoon. AdoptaPlatoon is dedicated to serving deployed United States Service Men and Women ensuring that they are not forgotten by a grateful Nation; providing on-going care packages to improve quality of life and raising morale for those serving overseas in the Army, Air Force, Navy, Marine Corp, Coast Guard and Special Forces. Josh will be top of mind as we research and learn more about the various non-profit organizations spreading good in the world.

On November 15th, I will keep the Nemeth family in my prayers and recognize the people who make everyday sacrifices and continue to pursue their dreams without asking for a reward in return. Without doubt, Mr. Nemeth left us an example to follow when he was happy to help his students be successful in and out of the classroom. Much like Mr. Nemeth, my mom will continue her education despite the difficulties that may come along the way. Not to mention, the sacrifices she has made for others in the community. To say the least, I admire these people very much and hope that I can do the same for others in the future.

I am truly grateful for the opportunities that this world can give, and especially opportunities for those who want to make a better version of themselves than they thought possible. I had the opportunity to receive a Nemeth Scholarship for the hard work my mother and I have put into our educations. I am honored to say that my mother has been studying every night for the last two years to pass her classes and earn a G.E.D. so she can make a better version of herself that deep down she knew she could reach. For these last two years, she has been doing something that I never thought she would. She will soon earn her G.E.D and know that she was able to complete her dream in life, which is her education. My mother works as a mother and a as student. This November 15th, I will make sure my mother knows how much I appreciate her sacrifices and dedication.

In the morning, we will be attending an Anniversary Mass for Josh who died 9 years ago. November 15 would have been his 43rd birthday. In the afternoon, we will be bringing food to a homeless man in our town. In the evening, we will be participating with other family members at Save the Starving Children.

We will remember Josh in a Special Way by shopping with our Grandchildren Jack and Matthew on 11/14 and Lucy and Aiden on 11/15 for the Fleece we will use to make the Blankets for the Homeless. We will be attending the Blanket of Dreams Event at St. Mary Seat of Wisdom on 11/23. It gives me an opportunity to tell them about what a Special Cousin Josh was and how he would be very proud of each of them as they do good for others in need.

My daughter and I were approached at the grocery store by a couple who are interested in fostering/adoption. I'm meeting with them to share my experience and encourage them if this feels like the right path. I wish that my daughter could have met Josh; she would have loved her amazing cousin.
