I started my Do Something Day this past weekend by calling, emailing, or writing to friends I've been meaning to get in touch with during the past months/year. I haven't finished the list yet, but the feeling of communicating again with the ones I did reach has me motivated to get to the others very soon. (This is more like a Do Something Week for me!) Plus, I've made a donation to Typhoon Haiyan relief efforts, and I've scheduled my appointment to donate blood - something I've been meaning to do for more than a year.

I took time today to catch up on writing notes to friends. I am usually good at this, but the past month work has gotten in the way.

For my challenge, I knitted a couple of scarfs, got some paracord bracelets and wrote letters to send to active service members. I also donated a small monetary amount to help pay for a couple of care packages.

In memory of Josh my family sat at the dinner table last Sunday and promised to "Do Something" this week. My kids really enjoyed this challenge, my 7 yr old came home each day wondering if what he did counted, if it was good enough. It was such a great lesson for him to realize that even the "little things" make a difference. I'm proud to say that this week each of us has reached out to "Do Something" in memory of Josh that we may not have done before. Josh's legacy lives on.......

For my Do Something I decided to write names of family and friends who have passed on a balloon with Josh's name on it. I said a prayer and released them. This was something I was suppose to participate in last year and never got the chance. Another do something was I finally picked up a Chicago Bears chair that has been sitting on my deck for some time now, and moved it to my garage.

Filling out Thank you cards and sending/dropping them off to people I know. Letting people know why I am thankful for them. It's important to let people know you are thankful to have them in your life, many people don't get to hear that often.

I participated in my first 5k and I LOVED IT. I felt very nervous about it but I am glad I did it. Mr. Nemeth would be proud that I had the courage to try something new.

Some time has passed since last we communicated, living many, many hours apart; life currently moving so quickly. I will be sending a very dear, frail elderly couple, the grandparents of a best friend who sadly lost his life eights years ago, who over the years had treated me and my family as one of their own, a thoughtful card and some family photographs.

I will be packing meals at the Feed My Starving Children location in Aurora, Ill. for Worldwide Christian and Humanitarian Relief Organizations. The food is targeted for the neediest children regardless of Faith. I believe Josh would agree " All God's Children deserve to be feed". The food which is in powder form is designed by food scientist at Cargill/General Mills to meet the needs of 4-8 yr old malnourished children and another formula designed for the younger breast feeding children that are weaning. Upon completion of the packing prayers by all are said for safe travel of the food and prayers for those receiving the food.

Getting out and enjoying nature is very important to me. I have always been very grateful for the countless volunteers that give up their time hiking or biking to maintain the trails. On “Do Something Day” I will finally be giving back and dedicating a half-day to trail maintenance at Knock Knolls park.

I am trying to help a young med student buy my Mothers car. Her lease was up and since it only had 4000 miles on the car I offered it to Ross. I didn't realize what a problem it would be, but I know Josh wouldn't think twice about helping someone out so I am going complete this transaction even if it takes all month. I know Josh would, and he wouldn't complain about it either.
